Consumers are likely to receive New Year relief as petroleum prices are projected to decline from January 1, 2026, subject to government approval.

Petrol prices may fall by up to Rs10.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel is expected to drop by Rs8.59.

Kerosene oil and light diesel oil could also see reductions of Rs8.92 and Rs6.62 per litre, respectively.

The expected decrease may help ease household expenses, lower transport and freight costs, and reduce inflationary pressure. Final prices will be announced after the government’s review of applicable taxes and levies.
