Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has confirmed that the notification for the appointment of Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) will be issued once Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif returns to the country.
The CDF post, created under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, replaces the abolished CJCSC position and will be held concurrently by the army chief.
While Field Marshal Asim Munir’s tenure continues under a recent amendment, a formal notification is required for the new CDF role.
The government is expected to finalize the notification soon, addressing ongoing debates over authority and tenure.
