Students Invent Gloves That Translate Sign Language Into Speech

Two University of Washington undergraduates, Thomas Pryor and Navid Azodi, have developed SignAloud, a pair of smart gloves that convert American Sign Language into text and speech in real time.

Designed to be sleek and wearable like a hearing aid, the gloves use sensors to track hand movements and send data to a central processor, allowing instant communication.

The innovation aims to break language barriers for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

The duo recently won a $10,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize for their creation and plan to refine the gloves for everyday use.
